Evening Devotional - Dealing with Doubt

Evening Devotional - Dealing with Doubt

Scripture Reading:

"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

Reflection:

Doubt is a common struggle in the Christian life, and at times, it can feel overwhelming. Whether it’s doubt about God’s promises, His presence in our lives, or His ability to work in our circumstances, doubt often creeps in when we face challenges. But Scripture consistently calls us to trust in God's faithfulness, even when we don’t fully understand what He is doing or why He allows certain things to happen.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the apostle Paul shares a powerful moment of vulnerability. He faced a "thorn in the flesh" — something that caused him great suffering, and he pleaded with God to remove it. But God’s answer wasn’t what Paul expected. Instead of removing the thorn, God said, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Paul’s weakness became the opportunity for God's power to be displayed.

Often, in our own doubts and struggles, we might ask why God allows hardship or why it feels like He’s silent. But this passage reminds us that God's grace is not limited to our circumstances. His power is made perfect in our weakness, and it is in our doubts that we have the chance to lean on Him most.

When we doubt, we are reminded of our need for Him — and that is not something to be ashamed of. The Bible does not call us to suppress our doubts but to bring them to God, trusting that He is sovereign and good, even when life is difficult.

Jesus Himself offers peace in moments of doubt. In Matthew 11:28-30, He invites those who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. He doesn’t promise a life without struggle, but He promises His presence and His peace in the midst of it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come to You tonight with our doubts and fears. We acknowledge that there are times when our faith feels weak, when the struggles of life make us question Your goodness and Your promises. Yet, we are reminded by Your Word that Your grace is sufficient for us. We thank You for Your love and for the power that You make known in our weakness. Help us to trust You more deeply, to bring our doubts before You, and to rest in the peace that only You can give. May we find comfort in Your promises and be reminded that You are always faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Closing Thought:

As you end your day, remember that doubt is not the end of your faith; it is often the beginning of deeper trust in God. His grace is sufficient, His power is made perfect in your weakness, and He is with you always. Let this truth be your peace as you rest tonight.
