Intimacy Over Activity

Scripture:"Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." – Luke 10:41–42 (NIV)
There is a difference between doing for God and being with God. In a world that praises productivity and activity, it’s easy to believe that staying busy somehow makes us more spiritual. But Jesus reminds us that the most important thing isn’t how much we do—it’s how close we stay.
Martha was busy doing good things, but Mary chose the better thing—to sit at Jesus’ feet, to listen, to receive, to simply be near. Jesus didn’t rebuke Martha’s service, but He gently redirected her heart. What mattered most was intimacy, not activity.
God desires your heart, not just your effort. He values your presence more than your performance. And He invites you to begin today not by rushing, but by resting in Him first.
As you start your day, pause. Don’t jump into doing—start with being. Sit in God’s presence for a few quiet moments. Whisper, “Lord, I choose You first.” Let that posture of intimacy shape how you move through every task ahead.
