Welcome to The Living Word Cast!
Good morning, and welcome to today’s devotional! I’m so glad you’ve joined me for this time of encouragement in God’s Word. Whether you’re starting your day with coffee, on your morning commute, or just taking a quiet moment, my prayer is that this devotional fills your heart with faith and hope.
Scripture of the Day
📖 Lamentations 3:24 (ESV) – “The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.”
Reflection
Have you ever felt like you just don’t have enough? Maybe you’re feeling drained—emotionally, physically, or even spiritually. Life has a way of making us feel like we’re always lacking something. We chase after security in money, comfort in relationships, or fulfillment in our careers. But no matter how much we gain, it never feels quite enough.
Jeremiah wrote this verse in Lamentations during one of the darkest times in Israel’s history. The city of Jerusalem had been destroyed, the people were suffering, and hope seemed lost. Yet, in the midst of all that pain, Jeremiah makes a powerful declaration: “The Lord is my portion.”
Think about that for a moment. What does it mean for God to be our portion?
In the Old Testament, the word “portion” was often used to refer to someone’s inheritance or share of something valuable. The priests of Israel, for example, didn’t receive land like the other tribes. Instead, the Lord Himself was their portion (Numbers 18:20). That meant their security, provision, and future rested completely in God.
The same is true for us today. When we make God our portion, we’re saying:
✔️ He is enough—even when life doesn’t go as planned.
✔️ He is our provider—even when resources seem scarce.
✔️ He is our hope—even when circumstances are uncertain.
Application – Living This Truth Today
So how do we live with the mindset that God is our portion? Let me give you three simple ways:
1. Start today with gratitude.
Instead of focusing on what you lack, thank God for what you have. Psalm 16:5 says, “The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; You hold my lot.” Take a moment right now to say, “Lord, thank You for being my portion. You are enough for me.”
2. When you feel lacking, turn to God.
We all have moments when we feel empty. Maybe today, you feel like you’re running on fumes. Instead of looking for comfort in temporary things, turn to God. Spend time in His Word, talk to Him in prayer, and remind yourself that He is your source.
3. Place your hope in Him.
Lamentations 3:24 ends with this phrase: “Therefore I will hope in Him.” Our hope isn’t in a paycheck, a person, or a position—it’s in the Lord. No matter what today holds, we can trust that He is faithful.
Let’s take a moment to pray together:
🙏 Father, thank You for being my portion. When life feels uncertain, remind me that You are enough. Help me to trust in You, to find my satisfaction in Your presence, and to place my hope in You alone. Satisfy my heart today with Your love and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
