Series 1 - Episode 1: Who is the Holy Spirit? | Introduction to the Holy Spirit, Lead My Steps

Welcome to the First Episode of the "Holy Spirit, Lead My Steps" Series!
In today’s episode, we dive into one of the most foundational yet often misunderstood aspects of the Christian faith: Who is the Holy Spirit? What role does He play in our lives, and how do we understand Him as God, as the Third Person of the Trinity? This episode is the starting point for understanding the Holy Spirit's profound impact on our walk with God.
The Holy Spirit is more than a force or influence; He is God Himself. He is essential to our salvation, sanctification, and daily guidance as we live out our faith. Through this episode, we will explore biblical truth about His identity and how He is actively working in the lives of believers today.
The Holy Spirit is God
The first truth we need to grasp is that the Holy Spirit is fully God. He is not a mere helper or an abstract force, but He shares the divine essence of the Father and the Son. Let’s explore some key Bible verses that reveal this truth:
John 14:16-17: Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, referring to Him as "another Helper." This highlights the divinity of the Spirit, as He comes from the same essence as Jesus and the Father.
John 15:26: The Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father, bears witness to Christ’s mission on Earth, revealing His divinity and unity with the Father.
John 16:13-14: The Holy Spirit speaks what He hears from the Father, glorifying Christ and guiding believers into all truth.
Through these passages, we understand that the Holy Spirit is not subordinate to the Father or Son, but equal in glory and divinity.
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity
The Trinity is central to our understanding of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are co-equal and co-eternal. The Holy Spirit plays a unique role in God's work of redemption. As the third person of the Trinity, He works in perfect unity with the Father and the Son.
Matthew 28:19: Jesus commands His followers to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, confirming the equality of each person of the Trinity.
The Holy Spirit’s Role in Our Lives
The Holy Spirit is not just a theological concept but a living presence that empowers us in our Christian walk. He guides, comforts, and teaches us as we navigate life:
Comforter & Helper:
The Holy Spirit is our Paraclete, the One who comes alongside to comfort us in times of trouble and empowers us to live for God (John 14:16-17).
Advocate:
He intercedes on our behalf, helping us pray when we don’t know how to (Romans 8:26).
Teacher & Guide:
The Holy Spirit teaches us God’s truth, illuminating Scripture and guiding us in our understanding (John 16:13).
Conviction:
He convicts us of sin, pointing us toward repentance, and reminds us of the righteousness we have in Christ (John 16:8).
Conclusion
Who is the Holy Spirit? He is God, the Third Person of the Trinity, and He is vital in our Christian walk. He is our Comforter, Advocate, Teacher, and Guide. Without Him, we cannot fully live out the life that God calls us to.
In future episodes, we’ll dive deeper into how the Holy Spirit empowers us, helps us grow in holiness, and leads us to fulfill God’s purposes. But for now, take time to reflect on the precious gift of the Holy Spirit in your life. He is not just a doctrine to understand, but a living presence to experience.
