You Are Not What You Did

You Are Not What You Did

Scripture: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

One of the enemy’s favorite tactics is to tie your identity to your history. He wants you to believe that your past mistakes define who you are today. But the truth of the gospel declares something far greater—you are a new creation in Christ.

Your failures, sins, and shortcomings may be part of your story, but they are not your identity. The moment you received Christ, you were given a new name, a new nature, and a new start. The old you—the one marked by regret and shame—no longer holds power over your life. You are not the sum of your worst choices. You are the evidence of God’s grace.

The Holy Spirit continually reminds you of this truth. He doesn’t rehearse your past; He reveals your new identity. You are His. You are redeemed. You are not what you did—you are who God says you are.

If guilt or shame tries to follow you today, stop and speak the truth: “That’s not who I am anymore.” Ask the Holy Spirit to continually remind you of your identity in Christ. Choose to live today from that place of newness, not from the labels of the past.
